A GS1 Company Prefix is a unique number licensed exclusively to your company. It serves as the foundation for creating various identification keys, including Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs) which can be encoded into UPC barcodes, GS1-128 barcode, or 2D barcodes—and other identification keys including the Global Location Number (GLN) and Serial Shipping Container Codes (SSCCs).
As a Pharmaceutical Manufacturer or Repackager, your company can request that the Food and Drug Administration (U.S. FDA) assigned NDC (National Drug Code) Labeler Code incorporated with your Company Prefix (if available to license). GS1 US requires that the GS1 Company Prefix be licensed under the exact company name as displayed in the FDA Database.
